Total treat to celebrate the paperback launch of Sanctuary in Good Rebel, the place I wrote the final draft.

Huge thanks to owner Steve Hopkins for hosting us and for his generous idea to stick a QR code on ‘my’ table 10, linking to this short piece. Or was it a hint? On reflection, it might be time to let someone else sit there…

Equally big thanks to the ridiculously kind broadcaster and journalist Jim Delbridge of BBC Guernsey for interviewing me and for all his support over the past weeks, to Jenette Bales for her introduction to inspiring local charity Guernsey For Freedom(please consider supporting them), and to my darling wife Sarra for the photos and – let’s be clear about this – for everything.
Also massive (I’m running out of synonyms) thanks to my publishers, the small but punchy and delightful Cinto Press of Bath Publishing Ltd; to my special agent Tom Cull and to my publicists, Read Maxwell Communications, for all you have done to get the book seen – not an easy task with a book that’s been described variously as a playful mystery, a satirical thriller, a rite of passage novel, an allegory of our age, and a meditation on love in all its forms...
Last but not least, superlative thanks to everyone on here and beyond who has helped to spread the word about the book. Unless you’re, say, Richard Osman – perhaps even if you are – to break through, books rely heavily on word of mouth. Why pretend otherwise: it’s a ghastly business promoting your own work. But as this piece by Lighthouse Reports confirmed to me with alarming clarity, Sanctuary is a story that needed to be told. 🙏
