Tide & Time

Guernsey Short Story Anthology

Swept along by the theme Time & Tide, these twenty short stories explore the shifting boundaries between land and sea, past and present, life and loss. Chosen from the Guernsey Literary Festival’s inaugural short story competition, the finalists represent a compelling range of voices from across the Bailiwick, weaving realism with folklore, history with the contemporary, and the personal with forces larger than ourselves.

My story, L’Ancresse, closes out the anthology and is a meditation on grief, mortality and love. I wrote the story two years after the death of my father, inspired by a moment I experienced when swimming in the sea with my youngest on my back.
