Notes from Magic Island

Tom began telling stories as an infant, triumphant on his return from the wars. He is yet to kick the habit.

Tom is a qualified barrister in the field of immigration and asylum law, and a freelance contributor to The Independent, The Tablet and Open Democracy. In 2021, he froze his practising certificate and moved with his young family to Guernsey. He has since completed his first novel, for which he was a finalist in the 2023 Page Turner Awards.

Prior to law, Tom did a degree in History; an MSc in Human Rights; and spent a year at Salamanca University, where he studied Spanish literature, poetry and translation. Tom is currently working on his second novel. When he is not writing, he can be found teaching Spanish in the local school or ferrying his little'uns around the island on his trusty Tern GSD.
